We know Africa from top to bottom.
South African political party established by former African National Congress (ANC) members. Mbhazima Shilowa, Mluleki George, and Mosiuoa Lekota founded the party in 2008 after disagreeing with the direction of the ANC. COPE positioned itself as progressive and diverse, and pledged to reach out to minorities and women. The party took its name from the historic 1955 anti-apartheid event that produced the renowned Freedom Charter, a document calling for nonracial social democracy in South Africa.
