Monumentum Ancyranum

(after AD 14) Latin and Greek inscription on the temple of Rome and Augustus at Ancyra (Ankara, Tur.). Known as the Res gestae divi Augusti (“Achievements of the Divine Augustus”), it represents the official account of his reign. It was composed by Augustus himself, who directed in his will that it be engraved on pillars at his mausoleum in Rome. The originals are missing, the copies at Ancyra being two of many.
