Resort complex built by the Walt Disney Co., a U.S. corporation that became the best-known 20th-century purveyor of entertainment. Opened near Orlando, Fla., in 1971, Disney World grew to include four theme parks: Disney's Hollywood Studios, the Magic Kingdom, Disney's Animal Kingdom Park, and Epcot. It was the first amusement park complex to incorporate hotels (including two designed by Michael Graves) and sports and other recreational facilities into its master plan.
