Apure River

River, western Venezuela. The major navigable tributary of the Orinoco River, the Apure rises in the Cordillera de Mérida and flows about 510 mi (820 km) northeast and east through the heart of Venezuela's Llanos (plains), the country's principal cattle-raising area.
